I'm sooooo excited to be writing about my all-time favorite city!!!
I first visited this city back in 2013 my senior year of high school during my last month as a senior. It'd been a few years since my mom had taken my sisters and I on vacation and it was our "end of tax season vacation". For those of you who know me, know that my mom has her own biz doing taxes and accounting which I've helped out at since high school.
Anywayzzzzz, there are sooooo many things to do in this city and soooo much culture to learn about which is why it's my favorite city! If you ever plan one trip to Mexico I definitely suggest visiting it's capital: Ciudad de Mexico.
Where to stay:
The safest, cutest, and trendiest neighborhoods to stay in are: Condesa and Roma. Literally, each time I've visited this amazing city I've stayed in these neighborhoods! I usually rent Airbnb which is obviously cheaper!
My friend has stayed in a type of Airbnb website called The Local Way and I definitely recommend!! They make you feel like you're at home. I'll link two apartments I've stayed at with her below:

What to Eat:
Omg the main reason I love visiting Mexico City is the F-O-O-D!!!!!!
I literally can't enhance that enough! I'm a HUGEEE foodie, so trust me when I say they have the best foods!
I'll try to make it plain and simple, while still including some pictures:
La Casa de Toño: food chain of "comidas corridas" which are typical mexican foods. Warning... I ordered a sope and a tostada the first time I went, regretting it after the food arrived because the sope was HUGE. The food is amazing, buut ask about portion sizes when you order!
El Pendulo: the perfect bookshop/cafe. The food is AMAZING, different, and best of all tasty! You could shop for some books while you wait for your food to arrive.

Cafe Tacuba: traditional mexican food with mariachi playing live! I'm not sure but I've heard that my favorite band Cafe Tacvba named themselves after this restaurant.
Churreria El Moro: if you are looking for dessert, go get some churros here! It's a chain so you could find a few scattered around the city. My friends and I would walk to one from her apartment in Condesa. The story behind this place is that a Spaniard man came to Mexico and realized they didn't sell churros.

Ojo de Agua: delicious fast paced restaurant. Funny story... I went to this place alone on my first morning on my last trip to Mexico City because my friend was too hungover to get up and go have breakfast. I popped her "party hard" cherry which was very hilarious! (Sorry lex! *evil emoji*)
Pasillo de Humo: boujee-est looking food I've ever eaten at! It was soo delicious! I had the albondiga dish (I can't remember the name) but it was sooo sooo delish!!!
Markets/Mercados: these are by far my favorite places to eat at when I travel. Why? They're inexpensive, delicious, and fast! These places are as if you were eating at your mexican grandma's house!

Activities:
Okay so there's soooo many things to do in this city! The first time I visited we stayed one week and ended up going back one year later for ANOTHER week to finish off visiting the whole city! I definitely suggest going for at least one week, however I do suggest going for two weeks.
Double decker bus: this bus takes you EVERYWHERE! Literally, it's the best transportation during the day because you can hop on and off. It literally literally literally takes you to all the tourist spots! There's one that takes you to south of the city and another that takes you to the main (I guess north) area.
Zocalo area is the downtown area where the president does the "grito" each Independence Day, indigenous peoples do cleanses, Aztec dances, culture, and Templo Mayor Museum.

Boats in Xochimilco: this is one of my favorite activities to do. You can ride in a trajinera (gandola-type boat) along the canals. The trajinera's are beautifully painted with bright colors. There's people riding around their own boats selling food, drinks, and playing music. I definitely recommend this activity because it's so much fun!

Frida Kahlo Museum: some of you may know that I'm a H-U-G-E Frida Kahlo fan so of course this is my favorite activity to do! Her house is beautifully decorated and it has all of her belongings in it which is so cool!
Chapultepec Castle: this castle has soo much history in it and it's so beautiful. It's a must to visit! It also has a beautiful view of the city. The art in this castle is pretty amazing, too!

Anthropology Museum: this is one of the biggest museums I've ever visited. It's so huge that it took me three hours to go around the whole museum! It has so much information of Mexico's culture and different indigenous tribes. If you like to learn about different cultures (like me) I highly recommend!
Teotihuacan: a.k.a the pyramids. I suggest wearing white clothing so that you absorb the energy the pyramids have. There's a lot of walking so I also suggest wearing walking shoes and water because these pyramids are big!

Bellas Artes Palace: I haven't had the chance to go inside but I've been recommended to watch a show. They have concerts, plays, and dance shows so there's plenty to pick from!
Basilica of our Lady of Guadalupe: if you're catholic or even interested in religions this is a must visit. This church has the original cloak containing the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Many people travel to visit the cloak from all over the world. As a catholic myself (even though I'm not super religious) it's pretty cool to see the cloak in person.
Parque Mexico: it's a famous park (it always comes out in shows and movies) where people walk their dogs, eat a snack, or drink their coffee/tea. It's a nice place to people-watch.
Coyoacan: it's another neighborhood (where Frida Kahlo's house is) where they have a nice church, good food, and a nice market. It's another place where you could people watch, eat, and go shopping.
Nightlife:
Pata Negra: all the tourists go to party here. They play different types of music which was the best part!
Loft Bar: it's the perfect spot to start your night before heading to Pata Negra. They also play all types of music!
Transportation:
Uber is cheap and could be used everywhere.
Double-decker bus is the perfect transportation to hop on and off when you want to do all the tourist-y things.
Tips:
-Change to pesos before traveling.
-Speak as much spanish as you can.
-Buy souvenirs at the mercados.
-Travel to another city if you can since Mexico City is in the middle of so many places to visits.
-Visit Alexa's blog to learn about other things to do and vegan food options!
